Thank God for seeing us through!
Deception Island! 
 
4:45am - Rise & Shine
4:55am - Breakfast 
5:30am - Get Ready for the final stage!
 
Prayer with buddy Simon before we left cabin! :)
 
6am - Board Zodiac to Deception Island 
6:35am - Start of our final stage and we were expected to run till 3pm :(
Wow nearly 9hrs… (in for a really long march)
 
It was something all the participants hoped to get less and we were all very exhausted and stretched to our limits! And coupled with the fact that the sea was very choppy last night, many of us did not sleep well as some of our stuff were falling all over the place in our cabin and we were woken up a few times! 
(Yes to me it was like Jonah’s time when the ship was really in great danger. Ya that was what I felt last night.)
 
It was a 2.4km loop with 110m elevation. 2.4 sound so familiar right isn’t it! Normally an easy slow jogging pace and it can be completed in 15mins or so! Nay!!
 
In Antarctica and from the past 5 stages, it will definitely take more!
First lap was a good 26mins, then 25:50, 26:43, 25:05, 23:41… just to name some lap timing. Did 15 loops & 36km in total. Thank God once again!
 
For me, I always do an estimation of how many rounds I could possibly come with the given numbers of hours, and do a countdown (so to speak). 
 
When it came to 4hrs/4.5hrs, I told myself that I am halfway through and the finish-line is in sight! Hooray! And as the countdown gets lower & lower, the legs got more & more tired too and the stride length shortened naturally. But with each purposeful step taken, the end of the whole Antarctica race drew closer. 
 
The weather was good from the start and as we were told so many times, it could change in a matter of 20mins-30mins. That was exactly happened. “Last lap” called was at 1pm and we were happy to hear that! Hooray! 
 
The last kilometre was emotional as I started to get ready with the Singapore flag, RV flag, Liverpool Flag. The YNWA song came up too!
 
AND FINALLY, WE ENDED OUR last stretch at the end point and we were congratulating each other after 7 days of gruelling & snow-filled run & walk!
At last we have completed the Last Desert Antarctica Race 2022!
 
Yes indeed as Mr Sim mentioned, To God be the glory! Now it’s time to rest and also preparation for the Drake Passage for the next 2 days. Hopefully not getting sea sick for the return trip! 
 
Thank you to Mr Sim, Chin Beloved Chow, Chong Neng, Boon Kiat & Sis Siew Min for leaving a note for me! Really appreciate it!

Many thanks to brothers Roger, Koon Way, Chin, Beloved TK, Kok, Sis Siew Min, Wenzhi, and many more for the most recent comments for the past 2-3 days, thank God that I am well and survived many occasions of possibility of spraining my ankle, twist my knees, hip and wrists etc, today we have a most welcomed rest day after nearly 25hrs plus of run/walk. Thank God indeed!
 
Just a recap that stage 4 was the toughest of all being a 2.1km loop with super duper zig-zags (9 up and 3 down) and elevation of 80m! Wow!
 
Stage 5 was much better with 1.5km loop and probably 30-40m elevation with quite a number of penguin crossings! It was amazing indeed to see God’s creation!
 
This morning, Simon & I went out for a cruise trip to Paradise Island to watch the penguins and enjoy the island, and subsequently through the sea in the zodiac to see the seals and icebergs & glaciers. It was really and phenomenal sight! 
 
Looking forward to the last stage tomorrow morning!

You did it AMAZING. Antarctica could not be more different to SIngapore but did your country proud! You may be glad it's over, but in a few days you will wish you were back in Antarctica ;).

Back to Back!
 
Stage 4 was done on 28 Nov (4pm to 9pm),
Stage 5 was completed on 29 Nov (7am to 12 noon).
 
Was very tough as it was back to back with lots of items & equipment still wet. We were given the opportunity to dry those items at a special room after 28 Nov session ended at about 9.30pm and went to bed at 10.30pm/11pm. All good with spare items as backup! Thank God!
 
Prep & more:
- wearing and suiting up 
- top and bottom
- inner layer
- extra layer
- shell layer (waterproof)
- life jacket on to get ready to go onto the zodiac to be transported to the running place (and island) 
- usually takes about 10-15mins to get to the island  
- knowing the loop distance & elevation will be key
-  yes the staff & crew members will set the course for us and they did a good job (though we would complain about the elevation & zigzag-ness)
 
Simon & I have gotten used to the “SOP”!
Simon is actually my cabin mate! Nice guy from the UK!
 
Yesterday’s course was by far the hardest in terms of the number of turns, up an elevation of 80m and down the slippery slope towards the end of the run as it was already 7pm onwards in the night. Thank God for keeping all of us safe and no injuries sustained by anyone so far.
 
Today’s session (29 Nov) started at 7am and end at around 12noon. Yes it was also by far the most “pleasant” course to run with 2.1km loop and 30m of elevation. Thank God once again!
 
Day 1: 4hrs
Day 2: 5.5hrs
Day 3: 5.5hrs
Day 4: 5hrs
Day 5: 5hrs
 
With 25hrs of foot race done, we are all happy and ready for either 1 or 2 more sessions to complete the overall expedition to the Antarctica!

On a 2.1km loop and an elevation of 80m, it is by far the toughest of the 4 stages. And it is really un-runable if you ask me. 1st loop in 47mins! Crazy right! And with strong wind and snow raindrops, it made the course for this 5-hr run really extremely super duper tough! 
 
Thank God for His preservation and keeping all of us safe! 
 
Early start for stage 5 tomorrow (6.30am). Got to sleep early now!

Stage 3 completed! Thank God! (5hrs plus of leg work!)
 
Perhaps the stage while I could run more (run-able), stage 3 was quite an enjoyable stage where I was able to run a lot more compared with stage 1 & 2.
 
It was still tough under the harsh conditions and doing the 1km loop with about 30m elevation. Ya at the end we were all like looking forward to seeing the zodiac near the shore as that will indicate to us that we will be ending the stage soon!
 
The penguins were lovely too and I was able to take some photos of the little ones crossing from one end of the snow patch to another.
 
Yes we are halfway through and thank you all once again for leaving comments and messages to uplift my spirit and motivate me! Appreciate that! Thank God indeed!

Start of Stage 3 soon!
 

Thank God for yet another good day yesterday for Stage 2 with 6 hours of running (walking)! 

 
Weather has been harsh (especially Singapore guy like me who’s afraid of cold weather) and for me, I have got to be very careful with each step. Fell a couple of times and just before the end  I went face first on the ground. Almost had my ankle twisted but it held up on the special special day of 50!
 
Thank God indeed! Thank you once again for all your comments and prayer!

After much anticipation, we were able to finally have our stage 1 underway at 2pm local time. Thank God that many of us were able to do as much as we can for the loop route with 50m plus elevation in each loop! Not that usual but expect the unexpected in Antarctica! 
 
The lead runner was really fast (and it reminded me of bro Kok who would fly through any uphill or downhill) but for most of us, we were just concentrating on putting one foot in front of another. Our time was cut short due to bad weather and that was like a most welcome message as we needed to get to the zodiac to get back to the ship! Thank God for good decision made! 
 
Yes yes all the participants will continue to press on! Keep it up!

Set Sail & Drake Passage!
 
We left on 22 Nov on Hondius (the expedition ship) at about 7pm and I was glad to meet my cabin-mate Simon Lacey, a great gentleman! 
 
The next 48 hours were choppy & the waves were “tough”! Thank God for his preservation, and we are almost there at Antarctica, and seeing some iceberg soon, and Stage 1 of the race will start in 16-18hrs. 
 
Really looking forward to it and hopefully the butterflies in the stomach will not be flying too much!

In about 9hrs, we will be boarding the expedition ship and will be making our way to the Drake Passage! 

Butterflies in stomach for sure but In Him I Trust! After 43 hours of flight & tansit and all the wait, really looking forward to my cabin mate and also lots of sharing, learning and great experience!

I remember "running slow to run faster"; maybe training less to be more effective and efficient!

Just did my workout last evening and a short run with my army brothers! Feeling great! :) 

As I get ready for this special challenge, I am really looking forward to it!

Although there are many doubts and uncertainties, it is definitely with great anticipation that I am going through these next few days!

After more than 70 run sessions since hip replacement op, I am quite happy to be going for this year-end trip and challenge! Thank God indeed! :)

In the next two weeks, when you're putting on the layers of water/wind/snow-proof clothing, boating through the rough waters to get to the southern tip of the earth, attempting to call out to the whales (practice with Finding Nemo), tracking through the snow competing with the penguins, rationing the amount of drinking water to reduce the need to fulfill #1, and self talking and pushing yourself to reach the finishing line... Remember to take it all in and self evaluate on your journey from the hip surgery to recovery to train for this event. You have come such a long way! What an unforgettable and inspiring journey that you may continue to share with all your family and friends from now and forever. Nothing is impossible. Godspeed dear brother!

Sounds like a trip of a lifetime. It's gonna be frigging cold. Decathlon has pocket warmers. Bear Grylls said to capture your pee in a bag to keep warm and hopeful. Stay dry because if you get wet, you'll freeze in no time. Also don't eat any rabbit (Antarctica history). The stars will be magical. Remember to look up too. Bring back some Argentinian Malbec.
